Moon Embracing the Sun is a 2012 South Korean historical romance television series starring Kim Soo-hyun, Han Ga-in, Kim Young-ae, and Jung Il-woo. The series tells the love story between Crown Prince Lee Hwon and Wol, a shaman who was once the Crown Princess.

The story begins with the assassination of Lee Hwon's older brother, Prince Uisung. The Queen Dowager, who is Prince Uisung's mother, orders the assassination in order to protect her own son, Lee Hwon, from the throne. A-ri, a shaman who witnesses the murder, is arrested and tortured. She tells her friend and fellow shaman, Jang Nok-yeong, to look after the unborn child, who has a "noble fate."
